If you’re thinking of having your wedding reception in a pub venue then look no further. Isabella is a great friend of mine and she and Alan just wanted to be married. But the reality is weddings are expensive – SO expensive. Never fear, there are ways of doing it cheaper and still having the day that you want. Using a pub for your reception venue is one of those. Loads of other buildings are now offering their spaces too so it’s worth doing your homework!
Anyway, back to THIS pub wedding! Isabella & Alan’s. They met way back in 2009 when Isabella was a seventeen year old on an illegal night out, Alan was a twenty four year old on a totally permissible night out with friends. Fate brought them together over some chicken from the Colonel. They never looked back. Here’s their wedding story from the horse’s mouth!
Very boring. Discussed it at length and agreed on a time to formally announce it! So we went away to watch truck racing for the weekend and agreed it was a natural occasion. If you like you are welcome to say that it was a wonderful surprise and I was so emotional I rushed him back to the dodgy hotel room to make sweet love. In actual fact I had too much to drink then could barely remember it the next day. Sack of potatoes. What a catch!
What were the best bits of the day?
Getting ready at my Mum’s house in the morning with everyone around. Walking back up the aisle to Billy Idol’s White Wedding. Walking down the staircase to be seated for dinner. Speeches! The fact that everyone got on so well in spite of many historical family politics. Our couples photo shoot on our own outside. The whole wedding experience was AMAZING.
What advice would you give to couples planning their wedding?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s a wedding! And it will be amazing even if the balloons aren’t the right colour. In terms of photography – think carefully about what is important and prioritise it, even if pre-wedding everything seems essential!
I tried on many, many dresses and decided I couldn’t bear to part with the big money for something I wasn’t going to wear again. After many hours of careful sourcing, I found a bespoke replica of the Vera Wang Gemma dress and negotiated an absolute bargain!! I felt totally happy that it is now banished like a shrine at the room at my Mum’s. I did wear an evening dress that I got as another sale bargain from theoutnet.com. I love the memory of poor Alan dragging this enormous dress bag round North London on the tube with everyone staring.
How was working with me?
Terrible!!! Haha. Only joking. It was like a gift from heaven.
Any tips for preparing for your wedding photos?
Take a hairbrush in case of adverse wind (weather related)!
What would you have done differently?
Taken a hairbrush!
Any tips on what to take with you on your wedding day?
Did any vendors stand out to you?
I absolutely loved my flowers, I love looking at pictures of them still. They were exactly as I had imagined, particularly the top table arrangements.
What were you most anxious about your wedding day and what was the outcome?
That the husband wouldn’t turn up – he did. And that I would wake up with no teeth, a triple chin and a spot the size of a second world. I didn’t and it was fine.
So that is the love story of Isabella & Alan and it gives me goose bumps reading it because it just feels so natural. No stress, no worry, just a happy wedding day with lots of personal touches – the perfect imperfect wedding!
As you can probably tell, we had an absolute ball on the wedding day and I loved snapping this loved up pair! I’ll leave you with the last few photos, and you’ll find all the vendor details at the bottom of this post.
If you want to have a natter about me being your snapper (see what I did there! ?) then drop me a note, I would love to hear your love story! I am a sucker for a happy ending.
